The Yamaha Six String Theory Guitar Competition
Welcome to the 2nd Annual Yamaha 6 String Theory Guitar Competition, co-sponsored by Concord Records, Monster Cable, National Guitar Workshop, Crown of the Continent Guitar Foundation, and D'Addario Strings.
Competition begins February 15, 2011 and ends on May 22, 2011.
We want to see videos of you playing with your band, a solo arrangement, duet performance, or any other performance that showcases your skills as a guitarist! You can enter in one of 6 categories: Rock, Blues, Jazz/Fusion, Country, Acoustic and Classical/Flamenco. We are looking for more than speed and great guitar chops, so send us something unique and inspiring that displays your musicianship and your virtuosity!
Here's how to sign up:
Go to the Sign-In section to fill out our online application and submit your $25 application fee.
Within 24 hours you will receive username and password that gives you access to your account.
Prepare 2 videos (5 min maximum per video) and upload them to www.youtube.com.
Login to your account in the "Contest Sign In" section and embed your video.
Our panel of online judges will evaluate all the videos and announce the 36 semi-finalists no later than June 15, 2011
36 semi-finalists will be chosen (6 in each category). Semi-finalists will be awarded a full scholarship to attend and compete at 1 of 6 National Guitar Workshops in Summer 2011.
- Rock - The American Jewish University - Los Angeles, CA (July 17 - 22)
- Country - Concordia University - Austin, TX (July 17 - 22)
- Classical - The Canterbury School - New Milford , CT (July 17 - 22)
- Blues - The Canterbury School - New Milford , CT (July 24 - 29)
- Jazz - The Canterbury School - New Milford , CT (July 31 - August 5)
- Acoustic - Sandy Spring Friends School - Sandy Spring, Maryland (June 26 - July 1)
Finalists will then be chosen from National Guitar Workshops (1 from each workshop) and will be awarded a full scholarship to attend and compete in a live performance on August 31st, 2011 at the Bigfork Center for the Performing Arts located in Bigfork, Montana hosted by Crown of the Continent Guitar Foundation.
A panel of professional guitarists will judge the competition and determine the Grand Prize Winner!
