The Lee Ritenour/Dave Grusin Rhythm Competition

Welcome to the Inaugural Lee Ritenour/Dave Grusin Rhythm Section Competition! The Rhythm Section Contest features 3 instruments: Piano/Keyboards, Acoustic/Electric Bass and Drum set. The Contest is co-sponsored by Yamaha Corporation, Berklee College of Music, Concord Records, Crown of the Continent Guitar Foundation, Premier Guitar Magazine, Dave Grusin, Jazziz Magazine, Monster, Music Connection Magazine and Captain Fingers Productions. Competition begins January 21, 2012 and ends on May 1, 2012 and is open to "Non-Professional Musicians" (see Rhythm Section Rules for details & definition of "non-professional musician").

We want to see two (2) YouTube videos (no camera stops, no backing tracks) of you playing a solo arrangement, duet performance, or trio performance that showcases your skills as a musician! You can submit under genres of: Rock, Jazz, Fusion, Blues or Contemporary.  We are looking for more than speed and great chops, so send us something unique and inspiring that displays your musicianship and your virtuosity!

Here's how to sign up:

Go to the Sign-In section to fill out our online application and submit your application fee. (when registering, you will be prompted on whether you're registering as a solo, duet or trio)
Within 24 hours you will receive username and password that gives you access to your account.
Prepare 2 videos (5 min maximum per video, no camera stops) and upload them to www.youtube.com.
Login to your account in the "Contest Sign In" section and embed your video (see Rules)
Our panel of online judges will evaluate all the videos and announce the 3 winners no later than May 10, 2012. All drum applicants will receive a free 6 month subscription to Drum Magazine

The 3 winners (1 Pianist, 1 Bassist, 1 Drummer) will be given the opportunity to record on Lee Ritenour's forthcoming Concord Records album. The rehearsal and recording will take place in Los Angeles during the period of May 20-May 30, 2012 (see Rules for more details). The 3 winners will also have the opportunity to win a scholarship to Berklee College of Music. The 3 winners will also have an opportunity to attend the Crown of the Continents Guitar Workshop from Aug. 26-Sept 2, 2012. Room and board provided; winners must provide their own travel to Montana. Grand prizes for each will also include a Yamaha instrument as well as Monster prizes. Lee Ritenour, Dave Grusin and members of the Advisory Board will determine the Winners.

(a.) Keyboardist Winner- Yamaha MOX8 Motif Keyboard

(b.) The opportunity to record on Lee Ritenour's upcoming album on Concord Records distributed worldwide by Universal. Lodging and per diem for 2 nights will be provided if winners reside outside the Greater Los Angeles area

(c.) The opportunity for an exclusive contract with Concord Records (see Rules Section 5- Concord Records Rights)

(d.) Up to 10 hours of "Professional Mentoring" from Lee Ritenour, Dave Grusin or select members of our celebrity Advisory Board. These mentoring sessions will either in person, phone, Skype (subject to scheduling)

(e.) The opportunity to perform at the Crown of the Continent Guitar Festival and Workshop as the backing group for the Six String Theory Guitar Final Competition and student workshop performances. Dates are August 26-September 2, 2012. Lodging and board provided; travel to Bigfork, Montana not provided

(f.) Diesel Vektr headphones

Rhythm Section winners will be notified by May 10, 2012. If any winner is deemed a minor in the state or country of his/her residence, prize may be awarded to his/her parent/legal guardian. All federal, state and local taxes on prizes are solely the responsibility of winners.  All prizes shall be awarded.  The odds of winning depend on the number of Entrants.
